The 7UP Digital Bartender earned a regional and national gold ADDY for Best Mobile App and a People's Choice Webby for Best User Experience.
The 7UP Digital Bartender went live on 7UP.com in 2018 and remained live until 2023. Everything discussed below has already been openly shared by the agency with permission.

I conceived of the digital bartender in response to an open call for digital ideas for the brand at the Richards Group. I presented the initial concept in a 3-minute shark tank-style competitive event limited to a single slide and functional prototype. You can see these and other artifacts telling the story below.

This is a screenshot from the functional demo I built in Axure for the original demo, and the first full pass creative used to build the functional, which was used for usability testing.
Once the concept was green-lit, collaboration with the brand design team began. Rapid and collaborative design iteration resulted in a static design we were happy with. For usability testing I built a fully functioning prototype from the static design. Consistent with the rapid nature of the project, I set up three days of guerrilla testing where groups of participants were observed going through a proposed onboarding process and using the app. After each day of testing, I updated the onboarding and prototype with changes based on that day's findings. Day 3, as it turned out, was validation that everything was ready for production.

Onboarding overlay developed during usability testing.
In the end, development was able to craft a solution that leveraged 7UP's existing recipe data, allowing us to launch the campaign in a matter of weeks.
